Kindergarten Summer Information

Below is a copy of a letter that went out to all of our registered Kindergarten students on July 2nd.  If you didn't receive one, please check your junk folder.  If you haven't registered yet, please click on our Summer Information Registration tab for more information.

We hope our new Kindergarten students have a great summer, we look forward to seeing you in September.

Welcome to Godson Elementary! We are looking forward to meeting your child soon! Due to changing enrollment figures, teaching assignments are not finalized until September. As a result, we are unable to inform you at this time, who your child’s teacher will be. Presently, we are projected to have 2 Kindergarten classes and a K/1 split in September.

*September 2nd and 3rd, we will be doing 1:1 interviews/meetings with all Kindergarten families – please bring your child! Be aware that Kindergarten students will NOT be staying at school these two days. It is important that all families attend their interview time, as you will be given further information regarding the “gradual entry” process, and general procedures for the first weeks of school. Please arrive promptly!

The meeting must be attended by both a parent/caregiver AND the Kindergarten child. This will be a one-on-one session to get to know your child and your family a bit better, before we place them in a classroom. This is a private, individual meeting between you and a Godson Kindergarten teacher, and is the ideal time to let us know if there are any issues concerning your child (medical, physical, emotional, social, if your child does not speak English, etc.). It is also helpful for teachers to know if there are any family or legal (custodial) issues which may affect the behaviour or academic success of your child in the classroom.

You will be receiving an email (at the end of August) with a link to fill out an online questionnaire form regarding your child coming into Kindergarten. It MUST be filled out before your child’s meeting day/time. We will print it off here at school, so you do not need to bring a copy along with you.

*Please look at the Gradual Entry schedule for the ‘Block’ your child will be attending and make note of the ‘times’ your child will be attending school on each day! Please be aware that all the blocks are now full, and changes cannot be accommodated.

School Supplies – The Abbotsford District requires all parents to purchase their child’s school supplies. A ’School Start’ school supplies information email was sent out earlier to all Kindergarten families. Hopefully everyone took the opportunity to buy their child’s supplies ahead of time. If you have not, you will still be able to purchase the supplies through the month of September. Do NOT label the school supplies as we will do that here. In addition to the school supplies, we ask that you provide a LARGE backpack for your child. It should be large enough to fit a BIG Library book, lunch bag, school Mailbag, and an extra change of clothes for emergencies. Please label your child’s backpack and lunch bag with your child’s name!

‘Inside’ Shoes – You will need to supply your child with a pair of shoes to remain at school. Please send in shoes that are non-marking. We ask that the shoes be Velcro or slip-on – NO LACES please, OR Crocs, even if your child knows how to tie them! Please label shoes with your child’s name!!

Snacks/lunch – Your child will need to bring one snack and a FULL lunch once the Gradual Entry schedule is over. We STRONGLY encourage they bring HEALTHY food, such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, sandwiches, yogurt, water bottle (labeled with your child’s name). Please send along a water bottle DAILY and a spoon/fork if needed. Do not send food that needs to be heated as we cannot do that for your child.

*No cans of pop or large juice/Gatorade bottles. No nuts/peanut butter or Nutella, as we are ‘nut-free’ at Godson.

We look forward to meeting your family and talking with you at your child’s Kindergarten interview on September 2nd and 3rd.

Welcome to the upcoming school year!
