About Us

Godson Elementary opened its doors in 1958. It is a K to 5 school with an enrolment of approximately 350 students. It “grew up” alongside its feeder schools, Abbotsford Middle (formerly Abby Jr.) and Abbotsford Senior Secondary schools. Godson Elementary is in the center of Abbotsford and is in walking distance of many amenities for its students to enjoy, most notably the jewel of the city - Mill Lake.  It continues to have a strong connection to the community with many former students returning in a variety of capacities, such as noon hour supervisors and even teachers!

Our school is a diverse community with several different home languages and cultures represented including: Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog, Punjabi, Vietnamese, Korean, Tigrinya, Croation, French, and English. Godson enjoys a great deal of parent involvement. In a regular school year, many parents volunteer in the school for hot lunch programs, fruit & vegetable programs, Scholastic book fairs, classroom support, Sports Day, Fun Fair and the Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). Strong parent involvement is encouraged as it is key to the success of our school. The school also enjoys community partnerships with such organizations as Kiwanis, Rotary, and the Salvation Army. We are privileged to be able to access community resources such as Centennial Pool, MSA Arena, the Sweeney Center, and the Fraser Valley Regional Library.

Godson is proud to offer free after school programming in conjunction with the Central Abbotsford Community Schools Association (CACS). After school programming is provided each term, based on a first come, first serve basis. They include music, dance, sports, and science programming.

Godson is also the site for Strong Start pre-school and Hand in Hand before and after school care.  These programs are housed in the portables, but also access parts of the school such as the gymnasium and learning commons facilities. The staff of these programs work closely with the school staff.
