2 students holding their light-bright project Students Working Together

Human and Social Development

Our students will study personal and human social skills and as they relate to students' identity in the world - both as individuals and as members of their community. We are learning that personal and human social skills encompass the abilities students needs to thrive as individuals, to understand and care about themselves and others, and to find and achieve their purposes in the world.

Goals

  • Improve student sense of well-being.
Personal and Social

At our school, we use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) alongside our X-block activities—such as art, music, and other creative or wellness-based options—to promote and demonstrate students’ overall sense of well-being. Through PBIS, we foster a positive and supportive school culture that recognizes and reinforces respectful, responsible, and safe behaviors. X-block activities provide students with opportunities for self-expression, collaboration, and personal growth, helping them develop confidence, reduce stress, and build meaningful connections with peers and staff. Together, these approaches create an environment where students feel valued, engaged, and empowered to thrive both academically and emotionally.
